informations about producer

Viticola Toscana SpA - Castello di Meleto from the village of Gaiole in Chianti, Chianti Classic area, is our Tuscan wine supplier. As the name suggests it is a castle - castello, from thirteenth century, built by a local nobleman Rainero, then run by Benedictine monks and in the eighteenth century, taken over by the Ricasoli family.

Meleto vineyards spread around the castle area of about 1000 hectares, including 180 for cultivation of vines.Mostly strain Sangiovese, from which Chianti Classico wine is produced, and also Merlot, Cabernet, Syrah and other traditional varieties.

The soil in these areas is usually margle and limestone. On such a barren and stony ground, grapes produces the best fruits, full of natural flavors. Castello di Meleto is a solid company with tradition, making excellent wines like Chianti Classico and a great Super Tuscan, Fiore and Rainero.

The awards received by our partner from authorities in the world of wine are excellent prof of quality: Vini di Veronelli, Mundus Vini, Wine Spectator, Decanter Worldwide Awards.

A sweet white desert wine made from the Malvasia Bianca and Trebbiano Toscano grapes. The wine is obtained by a special technique in Italian called appasimento - drying of ripe grapes in air-conditioned rooms, where they remain for several months (but no later than 31-st March following the harvest) and concentrate natural sugars. Next they undergo the usual process of vinification and the wine obtained in this way is subjected to long-term ageing for a period of about 4 years in wooden barrels with capacity of up to 5 hl. The name Vin Santo, holy wine, refers to the tradition of wine production falling on the Holy Week before Easter.
