informations about producer

Fattoria San Michele a Torri, a family-run company from Tuscany, from the town of Scandicci near Florence. Extended over 200 hectares of land, of which 50 cultivated as vineyards, 30 as olive groves, the estate is located in the Chianti Colli Fiorentini and Chianti Classico zones. Apart from traditional farming activities Fattoria San Michele is specialized in organic farming methods, the certificate of which, green leave, is shown on the labels of wines originating from their vineyards.

We introduced the wines from this producer exactly because his products represent the character of Tuscany. Sangiovese, Colorino, Canaiolo, Malvasia Rossa are the main grapes carefully cultivated on picturesque slopes. There are also white varieties like Trebbiano and Malvasia, from which excellent Vin Santo is made.

The history of the Nocentini family is linked to this territory, their estate was making wines already in the end of the XVII century, but only in the first half of the XIX century consolidated their winemaking potential.

Especially interesting is Chianti Classico Riserva La Gabbiola and supertuscan with the label Murtas. Well-structured, powerful and rich wines.

If you taste a bottle of Chianti Colli Fiorentini, you’ll know how does original Tuscan wine taste – fresh, beautifully fruity and of character, making hard to put the glass back down. Awarded an Oscar Bere bene - good to drink, we confirm.

A dry red wine from the native Tuscan grapes Ciliegiolo and Canaiolo with the addition of Red Malvasia and Montepulciano. An interesting wine with a beautiful name Chicchirossi, Italian for red grape bunch, reflecting the charm of Tuscany, what’s interesting, without the addition of Sangiovese. It’s a conscious and little teasing choice of the producer to bring out the potential of lesser- known but equally interesting grape varieties. Malvasia and Ciliegiolo give a strong fruity aftertaste, Canaiolo and Montepulciano strengthen its structure and make it round. Harvesting done manually (with an additional selection of grapes just before fermentation) and ageing for more than 12 months in small barrels and big casks result in a robust and consistent wine. Organically cultivated.

Color: vivid ruby red with crimson hues.

Aroma: fresh, concentrated, fruity, soft, very pleasant.

    Flavor: velvety, balanced.

Food matching: excellent with Tuscan starters, cured meats, crostini and also with aromatic and fatty sauces like ragout, amatriciana, carbonara, white meat roasts, also roast beef.

    Serving temperature: 18°C.

    Alcohol content: 13,5%.

A dry red wine from the native Tuscan grapes Sangiovese and Colorino with the addition of Cabernet Sauvignon. The most representative wine in the range of our producer. It’s, above all, a tribute to Murtas Terzuoli, managing the winery Fatoria San Michele for many years. Apart from cantiniere, the function of Murtas Terzuoli, this wine is to thank all workers of the estate for building up company’s reputation. Sangiovese comes from Fattoria’s best vineyards, Colorino from an very old vineyard that still yields excellent grapes, while Cabernet Sauvignon from a new yielding a lot. The grapes rest on the fruit trees for a little longer period comparing with the ‘normal’ harvest, therefore concentrate more sugars. Each variety is subjected individually to the process of fermentation, after which Sangiovese ages in 2500 -litre oak tonneaux, while Colorino and Cabernet in new barriques. The entire process takes 18 months. Next three parts of wine are blended and aged in the bottle for next 6 months. Interesting, carefully crafted and with great structure. A perfect recommendation of  Fattoria San Michele.

Color: intense, ruby red with purple hues.

Aroma: complex, intense, notes of black pepper, tobacco, coffee, floral hints, wild grass.

    Flavor: warm, velvety, gently tannic.

Food matching: excellent with game, boar, hare in sour-sweet sauce, roast game, and also Florence steak.

    Serving temperature: 16°C.

A sweet red wine from the native Tuscan grape Aleatico. This local grape variety is well naturalized, above all,  along the coast and in the Tuscan islands, but in the past was also cultivated in the middle of the region, then appreciated because of aromas and natural sweetness. Some time ago almost everywhere the guests were served a glass of Aleatico, while today more popular is Vin Santo. However, our partners from Fattoria San Michele have been planting a vineyard with Aleativo, continuing tradition. Collected grapes are dried on special grids for about month to concentrate sugars and bring out aromas, fruit and rose notes. An original wine, with a beautiful scent and gentle sweetness.

    Color: garnet with brick hues.

Aroma: intense, aromatic, notes of rose.

    Flavor: warm, sweet, crisp.

Food matching: ideal with desserts, short-pastry tarts, short crust with fruits, also with (lightly seasoned) cheeses, to savor after the meal.

    Serving temperature: 16°C.

A sweet white wine from the native Tucan grapes Trebbiano Toscano and San Colombano. Thanks to the commitment and great care of Fattoria the result is an excellent Vin Santo. First the grapes are dried on special grids from December until March (depending on the vintage) the following year after the harvest, then after rigorous selection only the best grapes are transformed into the wine. The process of fermentation is done in small 100- litre barrels (caratelli) made from various wood, chestnut, cherry, oak and mulberry. As many as 5 years of ageing is necessary to make a small bottle of Vin Santo, which then you can savour with great pleasure. An outstanding wine, charming and worth recommendation.

    Color: amber with copper hues.

Aroma: sweet, notes of honey, dry apricots, figs, dates, ethereal.

    Flavor: warm, velvety, very finesse.

Food matching: because of its elegance and great structure we do not recommend the classic pairing with Tuscan cantucci, it would be too banal. You will get more satisfaction if contemplate with it in the late tranquil afternoon or in the evening. Excellent with matured goat and sheep cheeses or with a good Tuscan liver terrine.

    Serving temperature: 16°C.

    Alcohol content: 17%.
