Dry red wine of Campanian native grape variety called Aglianico. This wine named Barolo of the south not without reason is compared to the great wine of Piedmont. Aglianico is an ancient grape, naturalized in the south part of Italy since centuries. It was introduced here by the Greeks, and received its name from the word Elleanico. Aglianico of our producer comes from vineyards situated in the hill areas in the surroundings of Castelvenere, in the province of Benevento, in the north-eastern part of the region. The local clone of this grape is called Aglianico del Taburno and is characterized by the best quality among the grape family of Aglianico. The volcanic and sandy soils and big temperature differences between day and night are suitable for its growing. Such vinegrowing conditions are provided in the Sannio zone. The local Aglianico is ripe at the end of October and the harvest is done during November. It is a wine with a big potential for ageing. With time enhances its values and broadens an array of aromas. Aglianico del Sannio was aged for six months in wood barrels and for the following six months in the bottle.
