Informations about region

Tuscany, a famous Italian wine region with an area of 22 993 square kilometres. The region is situated in central west area of Italy. The landform is dominated by hills (66,5%), mountains (25,1%) and plains (8,4%). Vineyards alternating olive groves spread on the mild hills.

This beauty of landscape is emphasized by the cypress trees growing along the narrow paths traversing the hills. Tuscany’s mild climate and soil condition have been always favourable for vineyards. The vine was widely spread in Tuscany before the arrival of the Etruscans in the VII century B.C. Throughout the next centuries wine cultivation was continued and wine was exported to the Mediterranean countries. The Middle-Ages was blooming period for Tuscan wines due to commitment of noble families, the names of which today appear on the labels of the finest wines: Ricasoli, Frescobaldi, Antinori. In the course of time writings evolved and emerged many writing records that described the great wines from the region – those from Montepulciano, those made from the Trebbiano, Malvasia, Aleatico grapes and, of course, those made from the most important among them – the Sangiovese grape. Famous Chianti wine, noble Brunello di Montalcino wine and Vino Nobile di Montepulciano are made exactly from the Sangiovese grape.

The above mentioned are the clones of the same grape variety, which is also known by another names, this is why Chianti is made from the Sangiovese grape, Brunello di Montalcino from the Sangiovese Grosso, and Vino Nobile di Montepulciano from the Prugnolo Gentile. The Great Duke of Tuscany – Cosimo III De Medici made a notice that delimited the areas, restrictions, rules concerning the production of Chianti wine. The Chianti area included Pomino, Carmignano and Valdarno Sopra what was the beginning of DOC regulation de facto.

A dry red wine from the native Tuscan grapes Ciliegiolo and Canaiolo with the addition of Red Malvasia and Montepulciano. An interesting wine with a beautiful name Chicchirossi, Italian for red grape bunch, reflecting the charm of Tuscany, what’s interesting, without the addition of Sangiovese. It’s a conscious and little teasing choice of the producer to bring out the potential of lesser- known but equally interesting grape varieties. Malvasia and Ciliegiolo give a strong fruity aftertaste, Canaiolo and Montepulciano strengthen its structure and make it round. Harvesting done manually (with an additional selection of grapes just before fermentation) and ageing for more than 12 months in small barrels and big casks result in a robust and consistent wine. Organically cultivated.

Color: vivid ruby red with crimson hues.

Aroma: fresh, concentrated, fruity, soft, very pleasant.

    Flavor: velvety, balanced.

Food matching: excellent with Tuscan starters, cured meats, crostini and also with aromatic and fatty sauces like ragout, amatriciana, carbonara, white meat roasts, also roast beef.

    Serving temperature: 18°C.

    Alcohol content: 13,5%.

A dry red wine from the native Tuscan grapes Sangiovese and Colorino with the addition of Cabernet Sauvignon. The most representative wine in the range of our producer. It’s, above all, a tribute to Murtas Terzuoli, managing the winery Fatoria San Michele for many years. Apart from cantiniere, the function of Murtas Terzuoli, this wine is to thank all workers of the estate for building up company’s reputation. Sangiovese comes from Fattoria’s best vineyards, Colorino from an very old vineyard that still yields excellent grapes, while Cabernet Sauvignon from a new yielding a lot. The grapes rest on the fruit trees for a little longer period comparing with the ‘normal’ harvest, therefore concentrate more sugars. Each variety is subjected individually to the process of fermentation, after which Sangiovese ages in 2500 -litre oak tonneaux, while Colorino and Cabernet in new barriques. The entire process takes 18 months. Next three parts of wine are blended and aged in the bottle for next 6 months. Interesting, carefully crafted and with great structure. A perfect recommendation of  Fattoria San Michele.

Color: intense, ruby red with purple hues.

Aroma: complex, intense, notes of black pepper, tobacco, coffee, floral hints, wild grass.

    Flavor: warm, velvety, gently tannic.

Food matching: excellent with game, boar, hare in sour-sweet sauce, roast game, and also Florence steak.

    Serving temperature: 16°C.

    Alcohol content: 14,5%.
